Preparation for exhibition

Preparation for exhibition and spring work was carried out in our small workshop today. Good weather (not extremely warm, but some sun in between) made it a pleasant day. Some shohin made prepared for exhibition two weeks ahead in the Danish Bonsai Society, and some regular work with larger trees as well.

The weather seems more stabilised now, and despite cold winds in between the trees seems to grow very well.  A good concentrated day of work and trees ready for exhibition within two weeks.

Dear Mr. Albek, congratulations for your work, It´s amazing…
I´m writing to you from Spain, I´m a bonsai lover. Spring started here two months ago, quite different…
I´m moving to Denmark next june and I´m interested in take some bonsai courses, if it is possible. Do you organize workshops? I would appreciate some information, if you can…
I wonder how do you get the pre-bonsais, do you buy them? or do you use yamadoris?
Thank you very much for your attention, Kind regards
    Tom

      Dear Tom

Good to hear from you. Yes, Spanish and Danish spring is very different. Especially this year I guess. Our spring has been very delayed and chilly too.
The only workshop planned so far is August 11th in the Japanese gardens in Denmark. It takes place at De Japanske Haver, August 11th, hours 10-16 http://www.dejapanskehaver.dk . We have a small exhibition made by me and my two fellow bonsai enthusiasts from Fuchi Bonsai ( http://www.fuchi-bonsai.com ). You can join in if you like, and I can dedicate some time for you there.

I get my Shohin material basically from three sources. A very little from own cuttings (almost nothing this way), a little is imported Japanese raw or pre-shaped material (also just a few trees), and my major source is ordinary garden nursery stocks transformed to bonsai, and a little from garden grown plants too (garden or city Yamadori if you like). A Shohin from good garden or garden nursery stocks can be cut back, and developed into shohin within a time span off app. five – eight years depending on the specimen.
Yamadori material is not of much value around here, except from gardens. We don’t have mountains and therefore not much suitable Yamadori material around. Therefore Denmark is good for Shohin growing, because there is good garden tradition and garden centres around where suitable material is at hand for transformation into bonsai, mostly Shohin though.

      Best regards
      Morten Albek
