Workshop at Nordic Bonsai
A nice day with nice people at Nordic Bonsai today. Students progressed very nicely with good material, and made some future trees. Especially one brave student made the “Albek-cut” and formed the basics of a big Yew, making a step forward to a Shohin-bonsai in future. Thanks for being there, to both my Danish friends and friendly guests from Sweden 🙂
Here a few snapshots taken in between teaching.

Thank you for posting, I love your trees, photos and blog 🙂 I was wondering what the “Albek-cut” is?
Morten Albek
Thank you. The Albek-cut, is when you drastically chop down a large tree to a smaller stump, from where you build the new shohin tree. 🙂

Thank you for replying! Oh i see 🙂 I’m going to do that with my taxus I just got. I want it to look similar to your taxus 🙂 soo I just chop then?
Morten Albek
Basically, yes. But you need to have some green on the branches left, or you risk the tree will die. So keep the lowest branches and cut above them.

I will make sure to save some branches 🙂 Thank you very much for your reply and for the blog, I get a lot of inspiration from your photos and your work.
