I am using Akadama/pumice 60/40 this year, there is no organic material in it and I have never added organic. For young plants I sometimes use an ordinary potting compost but only for young trees that are being grown on.

Just watched some of the stream of Gafu Ten, this video was much better than some of them. Some interesting displays, I liked the pot displays and there was also a tree on top of a rock very good. I thought it looked like a very high quality exhibition this year. I saw that Jon was watching too!

Jon, try tis peat sphagnum moss and fines from Akadama (dust) , not sure how much of each but this is one way I have seen. It is what Bjorn uses.

Welcome Stephane, you will enjoy the videos here, they are very good and will help you with your trees. The live Zoom is good too well worth joining in,

    Geoff.

    Jon,

in UK Kaizen Bonsai sell Keto, also in Poland Ibuki Bonsai sell it and there are others. One problem would be the weight, it is heavy.

    Lon,

In England I can buy with no problem. Making it is a bit different, the basis is just mud so clay nut clay from garden rather than the stuff you can buy for pots, although you possibly could use some. I always add the dust from Akadama and chopped sphagnum moss to it for binding. See you Thursday

We had an excellent auction, well attended. I came back with more money than I went and two nice shohin Potentillas plus a shohin stand for a very good price. I will take pictures of the trees and post them later.

As I said I think it may have got dry and the plant would lose a branch or two. If you just the dead bits off it will be fine. It happens so nothing to worry about. Lonicera grows quickly so it will come back. I have one that I re potted and hard root pruned in August this year, it has doubled the growth since.
