I like your work, well done. I would not leave it like that, but I don’t think it will do any harm. I would use a round pot, but maybe a bit shallower and unglazed. Otherwise I like it.

I love the last two books, I found his web site and they are $110 plus $49 post for the two and in English. I am very tempted but I think I will wait for a while.

The book I ordered from Japan arrived today. A Dialogue with bonsai, 10 days from Japan is quite good. It is a very good book, with some in English which is nice. I am pleased with it still working my way through it,

A lot of the books I have found in charity shops quite cheap, but if you search abebooks.co.uk you will find it.

Yes they are inspiring for me. When, (if) I get to Japan I will know what to look for. But I am enjoying hearing about them

I have some of your books, but some I would like to get my hands on are expensive. Still, I like seeing them even if I can’t have them,

Oliver, once the needles are off you can see what needs to be done. I would prune to the shape you want and then wire. You can do it now or leave it until early spring before the buds break. It does need thinning, but I like the shape and if it was mine I don’t think I would do much wiring just the tertiary branches rather than structure.

Sorry I missed your post, just seen it. I did not prune much, just some small bits, I want it to grow next year and hopefully flower. I will probably not wire it unless it  needs it but I will not know until next year when it has started to grow. I quite like the way it grows I like it to be a little unkempt. I try to avoid wiring deciduous trees if I can. I have a Chinese Quince as well, and it grows and flowers well. I re potted it in the autumn this years as Morten said in his video.

Yes, the Silver Birch came from Wales, I had it in a bigger pot and re potted it in February this year. Has grown quite we this year. I am going to prune a bit more once the leaves drop.

Thanks, Morten, that is useful. I have several Scots and the wire has been on for over two years. I am plucking needles on them at the moment, then some more wiring.

Oh, and I have a Chojobai coming today!
